Unveiling of 1.000m2 Mosaic
On Monday, August 12th, the Tour de France Femmes rode the 1st stage through the greenhouse area of Westland. Along the route, a mosaic of flowers and plants was unveiled. A significant contribution was made by our gerbera growers, who provided no less than 192,000 gerbera stems for the
Ode to Heroes
The mosaic features Mien van Bree, a forgotten hero and pioneer of women's cycling in the Netherlands. She symbolizes female pioneers who played an important role in gaining recognition for women's cycling. Mien is depicted on a racing bicycle, with the text "Ode to HERoes." This artwork symbolizes the recognition of all female cycling pioneers who paved the way for today's women's Tour. Keetie van Oosten-Hage, the first Dutch world cycling champion 56 years ago, symbolically placed the last flowers on the mosaic.
After the Tour stage on August 12th, the flowers and plants were donated to 10 regional care homes and hospitals, and visitors were invited to pick a bouquet for free.
