With a big smile, we look back at the event Summertime Gerberatime last Thursday, April 6th at GHC Plantion. The kick off of the gerbera season could not have started better. We give a brief review of the event.
Flower Arrangement Contest at high level
Participants in the flower arranging competition came from across the country, from Groningen to Limburg. You could feel the tension among the participants. The florists were very serious and felt the competition and time constraints. Some were encouraged by enthusiastic colleagues. Among the participants were students. It was an instructive evening for them, because they received valuable feedback from professionals.
Surprising creations
More than 15,000 (!) gerberas in all shapes and sizes were available to competitors. The jury was impressed by the preparation of the participants. Their basis for the first part (free assignment) was promising. Colorful, festive, summery and exuberant. Some materials showed a thread return in all three of their creations. Think of straws, wood and even tires.
And the winner is...
After the free assignment, gerbera bouquet and the bride's bouquet the professional jury selected a winner. They were judging by originality, color combinations and creative use of materials. The tension was built up when first the Top 5 could come on stage. The jury was unanimous, the big winner is: Martijn Lohuis!
A festive evening
But there was more. Live music, fries and burgers and even an ice cream stall. And what about expert advice? You could ask the gerbera grower how you keep your gerberas conserved in floral foam, the online expert how a local florist realizes more customers online and the trendwatcher for the latest trends. In short: food, drinks and inspiration.
